Rebranding for PA in Scotland

By Press Gazette

The Press Association has rebranded its Glasgow-based operation “The Scottish Press Association”.

Based at the Daily Record offices it is being described by PA as the national news agency for Scotland.

Thirty-two editorial staff are now based at Scottish PA, compared with just two reporters in Scotland in the Eighties. Half of that original pair, Joe Quinn, is still with the agency and was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Scottish Press Awards.

Devolution and the creation of a Scottish Parliament has been the main reason for the growth, with PA providing pooled coverage of debates. This year PA also launched a dedicated Scottish wire and broadcast service.

Scottish PA editor Christine Jardine said: “We have now grown from having just two reporters in Scotland to having more than 30 reporters, subs and photographers. While in the past we would have been providing stories primarily for titles without representation in Scotland, we see ourselves very much now as the national agency of – and for – the Scottish media.”
