Nkwocha
High-profile public relations director and publicist Kizzi Nkwocha has been appointed editor of the new monthly black lifestyle magazine, Society.
He takes over for its fourth edition but will retain directorship of his PR agency and continue to offer advice to clients on publicity issues.
Nkwocha said: "I am honoured to be offered the opportunity to edit Society. The magazine will change the world of publishing’s view of the black community and it is marvellous to be part of that. The publishing world often sees black publications campaigning on race issues. This magazine is different – it is about lifestyle and leisure, showbiz and glamour.
"Our focus will be to produce a Hello!-style publication for black readers around the world and the UK."
The next issue will profile black "It" girls and feature an article on top fashion designer Oswald Boateng.
Society has offices in Canada, Nigeria and the UK and will soon open one in New York. At present, one issue is produced for all three regions but Nkwocha plans to have a different lead story and front cover for each territory.
Nkwocha worked for five years as a News of the World investigative reporter before leaving to set up his own PR agency. His clients have included multiple-birth mum Mandy Allwood, who was previously with Max Clifford, Cheryl Mason, who married a Masai warrior, Bill Clinton’s former lover Gennifer Flowers and Baywatch star Gena Lee Nolin.
Nkwocha was last year voted one of the top 100 most influential black people in Britain.
