Pub ghost breathes new life into website

By Press Gazette

The Wiltshire Gazette & Herald website attractedmore than 100,000 extra page impressions in a day when it printed a mysterious “ghost” photograph taken at a haunted pub.

The pub, the Red Lion at Avebury, has been inundated with customers and ghost hunters wanting to see the restaurant where the photograph was taken and the mirror in which the ghastly reflection of the blood-spattered face was captured by Gazette and Herald photographer JohnMyers.

Richard Bounds, the licensee, said the Gazette feature had provoked enormous renewed interest in the pub’s “spooks” -it is reputedly the West Country’s most haunted licensed premises.

Some of those flocking to the Red Lion have begged to be allowed to spend the night in the restaurant.

Neither Bounds nor Myers can explain how the face came to be captured on camera. Myers was at the pub to cover a vigil by a group of supernatural investigators. “I was just taking random shots around the room to see if I could pick up any orbs or anything,” said Myers It was not until two days later that he downloaded his pictures and discovered the face.
