The new editor of the Nottingham Evening Post, Malcolm Pheby, said that a drive towards becoming a more integrated news service was high on his agenda.
Pheby, who is MD of the Nottingham Post group, has also been named regional editorial director of Northcliffe's Midlands operation with responsibilities for titles in Nottingham, Leicester, Stoke and Derby.
He said: "This is an exciting time for newspapers as we shape ourselves to become integrated media businesses.
The Post is a great newspaper in a great city. Its brand is renowned, both in print and increasingly online. It is a privilege to be its editor."
Pheby was deputy editor of the Leicester Mercury before becoming editor of the East Anglian Daily Times and Evening Star in Ipswich.
He was later editorial director for Eastern Counties Newspapers, which was later bought by Archant, managing editor of the Daily Express and managing director of the Lincolnshire Echo.
Pheby, who takes up his position on 30 September, replaces editor of 12 years Graham Glen.
