The NUJ is to examine “every single” job lost as a result of redundancies at ITN and London News Network to assess whether it will lead to a reduced news service for the capital.
The union’s broadcast organiser, Paul McLaughlin, said discussions with ITN about its voluntary redundancy scheme had opened on “a positive note”.
ITN announced the scheme after formally taking over the news service for London from LNN earlier this month. The move will result in the loss of up to 40 editorial jobs.
McLaughlin insisted that any negotiations with ITN were on the basis that there would be “no compulsory redundancies”.
Applications for voluntary redundancy are open to journalists from both news providers until 13 November.
Journalists at Carlton have rejected an offer of a 2.5 per cent pay rise.
