The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland is to go ahead with plans for new television services in the Republic.
The decision comes after it had reviewed more than 40 expressions of interest from TV and media companies as well as community groups.
TV3, the independent national company, was the only station among the big television organisations in the Republic to make submissions to the BCI.
TV3 is also among the companies which has expressed an interest in applying for one of the new radio licences in Dublin. The BCI had earlier announced that four further frequencies on the FM band have been identified for use in the metropolitan area.
London’s Jazz FM has displayed interest in breaking into the Irish market as well as stating an interest in existing local radio franchises and radio services in appropriate places.
