ComputerActive has scrapped the post of technical editor to better reflect its “plain English” approach to IT.
The move coincides with a shake-up of the editorial team ahead of the results of research focus groups, which could signal further tweaks to the design and content.
Technical editor David Ludlow will take on the role of reviews editor and replace Nigel Donnelly, who has left to go travelling. Senior writer Emilie Martin has joined from VNU’s sister title, Personal Computer World, as features editor. Editor James Harding said the removal of the technical post reflected ComputerActive’s editorial content.
“The main thing about our mission is to simplify everything and make the technical side easy to understand. It [the role of technical editor] seemed a bit of an anomaly. The new role reflects what the person is actually doing,” he said.
ComputerActive is also waiting for the results of reader focus groups. “We are testing a few things out. There could be a redesign but it’s more about what we are doing, how we present it and the technical level we are pitched at,” said Harding, who is also recruiting an extra sub-editor.
