Picture special: Richard Desmond’s Luton Media City plans

By Dominic Ponsford

Northern and Shell is apparently considering moving its whole operation from Lower Thames Street in central London to an industrial estate next to Luton airport.

The Richard Desmond-owned company declined to comment yesterday. But it has submitted plans for a new Northern and Shell Media City development which would include a major printing plant and around 1,000 staff.

Northern and Shell publishes the Express and Star newspaper titles as well as OK, Star and New magazines. And is also owns the TV station Five.

Here are some images from plans submitted to Luton Council which reveal more about Desmond’s plans.
