A Scottish news photographer is facing charges after being arrested
outside the home of a teenage suicide victim, writes Hamish Mackay.
It
is understood that Julie Howden, 28, who works for Edinburgh-based news
agency Newsflash, had been taking photographs while driving past the
home of Ryan Hargan, 17, who was found hanged in his home in Dedridge,
Livingston, on 14 September – just a week after a schoolmate, Liam
Cosgrove, 15, took his own life.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and
Borders Police confirmed Howden had been charged with breach of the
peace and road traffic offences following the incident. She added that
a report had been sent to the procurator-fiscal.
Newsflash
director Frank Kilbride said Howden had been arrested on “shaky
grounds” and did not believe the procurator- fiscal would proceed with
the case.
