Pakenham award entries invited

By Press Gazette

The Sunday Telegraph is inviting applications for this year’s Catherine Pakenham Award.

Set up in 1970, the award is designed to encourage young women journalists aged between 18 and 25 as they begin their careers.

Entrants are asked to submit a previously unpublished non-fiction article of between 750 and 2,000 words by 30 May 2003. The winner will receive £1,000 and the chance to write for a Telegraph publication. Three runners-up will each receive £200. Prizes will be presented at a reception in London in the summer.

The award is in memory of Catherine Pakenham, who was a journalist on the Telegraph Magazine in 1969 when she died in a car crash, aged 23.

Entry forms are available from Emma Gilbert-Harris, Corporate Affairs, The Sunday Telegraph, 1 Canada Square, London E14 5DT.
