Northcliffe Newspapers is understood to be closing its weekly 29,000 circulation Taunton Times in Somerset next Friday.
Tindle Newspapers has just acquired a Devon-based weekly from Northcliffe, the Wellington Weekly News, which was launched in 1860 and is one of the oldest newspapers in the country. It was a sister title to the Taunton Times.
The Weekly News has a circulation of 4,120. No-one at the Taunton Times was available for comment.
