Krissi Murison has become the first female deputy editor at NME.
Murison joined NME in 2003 as a junior staff writer and has since worked as new bands editor and features editor.
In 2006 she was nominated for a special achievement award at the Nordoff Robbin’s Woman of the Year awards – the only nominee from the media in the music industry dominated event.
Asked about being the first woman to hold the NME post, Murison said: ‘I don’t think there’s any great conspiracy. It’s changing – there are many more women in the music press and music industry as a whole. There is this perception of NME as a boys’ own club and yes there are more guys than girls, but it’s not exclusive in any way.”
A former NME deputy editor, John Mulvey, has also been appointed in the same role of IPC’s music monthly, Uncut. He was previously reviews editor at Uncut since 2004.
