New look for Guardian series

By Press Gazette

The Guardian series of South London free newspapers have been given a new look.

The Newsquest-owned weeklies, which have a combined distribution of 605,597, have been given redesigns from back to front along with new editorial features.

The Sutton edition has increased its pagination to include new features such as It’s My Life, a profile of key figures in the town, An Insider’s Guide, which focuses on different areas in the borough each week, and Sutton’s Best, where readers get to decide which venue, shop or service deserves to receive a new annual award.

Group managing editor Jo Gumb said: “We held brain-storming sessions with the journalists in each patch and asked them what they wanted to write about.

“We hadn’t done a redesign for a decade. Papers are always changing and becoming more modern. If you haven’t touched a paper for a while it starts to look tired. We carried out a great deal of consultation and talked the changes through with as many people as possible before implementing them.

“It’s been a real team effort as we have taken the opportunity to take the whole paper apart and put it back together the way our readers said they wanted it.”

The Guardian publishes 11 editions with localised content in Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Streatham, Kingston, Elmbridge, Sutton, Epsom, Croydon, Staines, Hounslow and Richmond.
