Prior: former chief sports sub
Guardian chief sports sub Ian Prior has been promoted to deputy sports editor. He replaces Mike Herd, who has taken a year off to go travelling.
Prior, 26, trained as a journalist at Dublin Institute of Technology before joining the Irish News in 1995 as a sports sub-editor. He worked for the title as a reporter, Gaelic Games columnist and chief sports sub-editor before joining the Irish Mirror as sports sub-editor in 1998.
After becoming deputy sports editor for the Irish Mirror, Prior joined The Guardian in 1999. He has held various posts on the Guardian sports desk, including sports night editor before becoming chief sports sub in 2002.
Adam Sills will take responsibility for editing the Saturday sports section and assume a wider responsibility for features throughout the department. Sills, 27, joined the Guardian sports desk in 1998 and has performed a series of key roles in the production of the paper.
