Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales has launched an interactive entertainment website and magazine. Liverpool.com is primarily a website, but also has a glossy monthly magazine attached to it.
Aimed at local consumers in the city's growing tourist market, the service is backed by the Liverpool Culture Company. Liverpool is currently celebrating its 800th birthday, and will gain European Capital of Culture status in 2008.
The magazine will have its own dedicated team of writers, including editor Rachael Tinniswood, who has both national and regional experience, and features editor Patricia Caliskan, who has 10 years' experience writing for magazines in Liverpool. Further staff are being recruited, and existing Liverpool Post and Echo journalists will also contribute.
As well as features, reviews and previews, Liverpool.com will offer news-user ratings and video and audiocasts, as well as fully searchable listings databases, restaurant menus and maps.
Liverpool Echo editor Alastair Machray, who will have ultimate editorial responsibility for Liverpool.com, said: "I was flabbergasted when we began putting the site and the mag together by the sheer volume of leisure options that are out there.
"The only thing missing was Liverpool.com itself. We are home to a whole new generation of confident, optimistic people, anxious to be out and about enjoying what the region has to offer. That mood change and the newness of Liverpool is reflected in the fact that Liverpool.com is the first TMNW launch to focus on online with a print companion, rather than vice versa."
With a distribution of 25,000, Liverpool.com will be available at 200 targeted outlets across the region.
