Anushka Asthana and Catherine Shaw have joined The Observer after completing the paper’s trainee scheme. Asthana, who recently graduated from City University’s journalism postgraduate course, has been made junior reporter. Shaw has been appointed trainee photographer and is a graduate of the University of Brighton. She is the second student to complete The Observer’s trainee photography scheme.
