Emel magazine, the Muslim lifestyle title launched by Islamic
convert Sarah Joseph, has been relaunched for the mainstream market and
is planning a TV and poster campaign.
The monthly magazine has
previously only been available in specialist Muslim bookshops, but will
now be sold on newsagents’ shelves.
Joseph, who converted to
Islam at 16 and was awarded an OBE last year for services to interfaith
dialogue, said in the relaunch issue: “We aim to be a positive voice
that celebrates the value of being a Muslim in today’s Britain.
“We
also aim to reflect the diversity of the many people and communities
that make up the British Muslim population, to create trust and
co-operation, and our ethos is to be constructive.
“The challenge is to create a British culture within a broader European culture that reflects Islamic values.”
