MP attacks BBC for delaying exposé

By Press Gazette

BBC Scotland has come under fire after postponing a hard-hitting documentary on the beleaguered Scottish fishing industry until after the European elections on 10 June.

The documentary, entitled Gutted, was scheduled to be shown on Wednesday (2 June) but was pulled from the schedules at the last minute.

The documentary charts a year in the life of the Cod Crusaders, who campaign for the survival of Scotland’s fishing communities. It will now be shown on16 June.

Banff and Buchan MP Alex Salmond has written to the BBC’s new director general, Mark Thompson, asking for an explanation for the decision.

Salmond said: “This is pathetic and craven behaviour by the BBC. The issue at stake here is a simple and depressing one – the BBC is running scared of the Government postHutton, and is skewing its coverage to suit the Government.”
