Mirror group expands web

By Press Gazette

Trinity Mirror is seeking to cash in on its national newspaper websites with dating, a job-search service and bingo.

This
week it announced that the websites for the Daily Mirror, Sunday
Mirror, People, Daily Record and Sunday Mail are all to come under new
editorin- chief, Steve Purcell, previously editor of Mirror.co.uk.

The
move follows a relaunch of Mirror.co.uk, which has led to a claimed 79
per cent increase in traffic to the current total of 1.8 million unique
users a month. Other new channels include mobile phone comparison
tools, games and leisure guides.

Mirror.co.uk puts all content
from the newspaper up on the site every morning and breaking-news
updates are provided by Purcell and his small team throughout the day.
He said: “It’s a completely different readership online. We are aiming
to persuade people who use us to pick up the paper and vice versa.”
