Mirror appeases Blunkett

By Press Gazette

By Jean Morgan

A Press Complaints Commission complaint from Work and Pensions
Minister David Blunkett over the Daily Mirror story linking him to a
blonde estate agent has been averted.

A Mirror spokesman said: “We stand by our story and the quotes 100
per cent. However, Mr Blunkett felt the piece gave the impression he
had given an interview about his private life.

“We have an
excellent relationship with Mr Blunkett and, as such, are happy to
print a clarification in our For the Record column. We understand he
will not be complaining to the PCC and our good relationship continues.”

Blunkett
was thought to be enraged at the Mirror’s headline “Me and my blonde,
aged 29”, which suggested, he believed, that it was an actual quote
from him.

He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme: “I recorded that interview and I never said that.”

In
the news story he is quoted as denying having an affair with Sally
Anderson (the blonde of the headline)n saying it was a “platonic
friendship”.
