Mirror apology

By Press Gazette

A doctor has received a public apology from the Daily Mirror and is to be paid undisclosed damages over a piece which appeared in September 2001 under the heading “Girl Scarred for Life After GP’s Blunder – Lump Wrongly Diagnosed”.

Counsel for Dr Mark Greenhalgh told Mr Justice Gray that article indicated that a five-year-old girl had been permanently scarred after the doctor had failed to correctly diagnose a growth on her head.

However, she was not suffering from the condition stated in the article and the doctor had prescribed appropriate medication and treatment.

MGN accepted that the allegations were “wholly incorrect”.
