BBC Magazines has hired Sarra Manning, the former editor of Elle Girl magazine, to be acting editor of its new fashion glossy What to Wear.
The title, which launched with a marketing budget of £500,000 last month, is based on the BBC Two TV show What Not To Wear.
Lucy Dunn, deputy editor on sister title Eve, edited the first issue and Manning will step in when Dunn goes on maternity leave. The BBC is expected to recruit a permanent editor and team over the next few months.
Manning spent nearly 10 years working on Emap titles including Elle, The Face, J17, More and Bliss. She was editor of Elle’s teenage spin-off Elle Girl until it was taken over by Hachette in 2002. Manning was then given the role of associate editor at Emap Elan and has spent the last 18 months in special projects.
The 156-page glossy What To Wear has been designed in a smaller “handbag” format to make it more practical for readers to take shopping. Aimed at 18 to 30-year-olds, it will be published quarterly with a print run of 150,000 and cover price of £1.80.
