Lynam returns to the BBC airwaves

By Press Gazette

Des Lynam, a former stalwart of BBC sports coverage, is returning to the broadcaster this summer after a fiveyear sojourn with ITV.

From August, Lynam will present a Saturday programme for BBC Radio Five Live, interviewing top sporting personalities. Des Meets… will air at midday from 21 August and throughout the football season.

“I’ll be happy to get back onto the radio and this show is a chance to really get to know some of my sporting heroes and share that experience,” Lynam said.

The move back to the BBC, where he presented sports programmes for 30 years before switching to rival ITV, follows his resignation from the commercial broadcaster this month after the Euro 2004 football tournament.

Five Live controller Bob Shennan said: “Sports fans around the country will breathe a sigh of relief that he will be back on the airwaves.”
