Bradford’s Telegraph & Argus has put its money where its mouth is and donated £10,000 to help save Bradford City Football Club from closure, writes Dominic Ponsford.
The club has been in administration since the end of February, has been relegated to Division Two and has been told it needs to raise £100,000 by the end of June to avoid closure.
The Newsquest daily has launched a campaign called Save Our City and has promised to do all it can to help supporters meet their fundraising target.
Editor Perry Austin-Clarke said: “While frantic negotiations have been going on in a bid to save the club, it’s been incredibly difficult to work out exactly what fans can do that will really make a difference. Now we have a real target to go for.
“We fervently hope that businesses across Bradford will follow our example and realise that they too can play a big part in saving our senior football club from oblivion. It’s inconceivable that a city the size of Bradford could be without a League football team.”
He urged businesses to donate to the appeal for the sake of the whole city as well as the football club.
