One of the The Times’s rising stars, Melissa Kite, has been poached by The Sunday Telegraph.
The move coincides with a reshuffle on the management team at Telegraph Group, which sees media columnist and consultant editor Kim Fletcher promoted to editorial director. He replaces Jeremy Deedes, who is leaving after seven years.
Kite joins The Sunday Telegraph as deputy political editor, replacing Francis Elliott who has moved to the Independent on Sunday, where he will be political correspondent.
Sunday Telegraph editor Dominic Lawson said: “We have a relatively small political team – just two people in the lobby – so it gives great scope for people who want to get on.
It think she has taken the job because she realises that we put a high price on brilliant writing. Her articles for The Times have been superb.”
Managing director of Hollinger Telegraph New Media, Hugh Drayton, is the new overall managing director of Telegraph Group.
