The
deputy editor of Closer magazine has been poached for the relaunch of
the National Enquirer in the States after two years at the celeb title.
Former
News of the World reporter Louise Oswald will move to the Enquirer with
her husband, News of the World photographer Brian Roberts.
The
National Enquirer is being relaunched by former Sun executive Paul
Field, with a team that includes more than 20 journalists enticed from
Britain.
Oswald said: “I am really sad to leave Closer because
it’s been such a groundbreaking magazine, but I don’t think an
opportunity like this is going to pop up again.”
At the other end
of the market, The Economist’s Britain editor, Emma Duncan, is to
become the magazine’s first woman deputy editor following the departure
of long-serving staff member Clive Crook to Washington.
Crook,
who has spent 22 years at The Economist, will now write for the current
affairs magazine Atlantic Monthly and political weekly the National
Journal.
Duncan first worked on The Economist in the mid-80s,
covering transport issues, and said she had stayed so long because of
the greater autonomy given to journalists on the magazine compared to
other titles.
She added: “The lack of bylines is good for teamwork. People are much more willing to share information and contacts.”
