Hardy joined the Gloucestershire Echo in 1990 and has been deputy editor since 1994. He previously worked at the Stroud News & Journal and Stroud Mercury, where he was deputy editor, and the Bristol Evening Post.
He is replacing Alan Osborn, who is retiring from the Journal after 20 years. Osborn started his career on the South Wales Evening Post as a copy boy in 1956.
