A threatened strike by NUJ journalists at the Daily Record and Scottish Sunday Mail has been averted.
The 212 NUJ members accepted a 0.15 per cent increase on the
company’s initial pay award offer of 2.5 per cent for a total pay award
of 2.65 per cent.
The deal includes an enhanced compulsory
redundancy payment for NUJ member Sam Mairs, who works in the company’s
imaging department.
Staff had been angered by the offer of 2.5
per cent, when colleagues working for other titles owned by publisher
Trinity Mirror were being offered more.
However, this was at the expense of higher redundancies than those suffered recently at the two Glasgow titles.
The settlement came before the NUJ members were set to strike on general election polling day, 5 May.

Mail, said: “We have worked hard to persuade the NUJ that an amicable
solution could be found, and are pleased we have now been able to do so.
“Premature
threats of industrial action are unsettling for a business, but we were
always confident that action could be avoided.”
