The Islington Gazette has won, for the fourth year in a row, the Independent News & Media (Regionals) Newspaper of the Year title.
It overcame tough competition from the group’s titles in London, Essex and Kent, narrowly beating the Gravesend Reporter and the East London Advertiser.
The Islington Gazette first won the trophy in 2000 and has retained it every year since then, impressing industry judges, including Independent editor-in-chief Simon Kelner, Independent on Sunday editor Tristan Davies and, this year, newspaper and magazine design consultant Malcolm Starbrook.
Islington Gazette editor Tony Allcock said: “To win Newspaper of the Year for the fourth time is absolutely phenomenal. “It shows we are dedicated to bringing readers a lively, informative and quality newspaper. I’m very pleased the quality of our newspapers has been recognised in this way.”
