Guardian Unlimited launched its politics website yesterday with four exclusive stories, one of which on William Hague’s intention to play the sylum seekers card in his party political broadcast, was followed up by the Daily Telegraph with accreditation to the site.
The site, guardian.co.uk/politics is edited by Julian Glover and published by Benjamin Wegg-Prosser. It will provide breaking news, exclusive political commentary, analysis, games, gossip and ‘Aristotle’, a database of political information.
Launched to coincide with what The Guardian expects to be a forthcoming general election, the site will offer election analysis, breaking news from across the UK, exclusive reports from the ‘battle buses’ and online interviews with leading political figures.
Users of Aristotle will be able to search for local candidates, track their MP’s record in and out of parliament and judge the performance of government in their area.
The site also offers research and archive material, including election posters from the turn of the century, Guardian articles from the 1940s and old photographs which some senior politicians would rather forget.
One section, ‘Westminster and Whitehall’, will have news and analysis through the day from the paper’s lobby team led by political editor Michael White.
