Fish Farmer is reeled in

By Press Gazette

Special Publications, part of The Oban Times Group, has boosted its presence in the aquaculture sector and acquired Fish Farmer magazine from Amber Publications.

The move has resulted in the departure of Fish Farmer’s editor and the owner of Amber Publications, Stuart Banks.

The title, which launched in 1977, is published bimonthly and distributed overseas to people in the aquaculture industry as well as in the UK.

Banks said: “I have very much enjoyed the 20 years I have been associated with the fish farming industry and watched its rapid growth.

“Now two years past my official retirement age, I think it is time for a well-resourced younger team to take over and keep pace with this dynamic sector which looks as though it will be expanding and diversifying even faster in the coming years.

“I wish Special Publications every success in their endeavour.”

Fish Farmer will join Special Publications’ existing portfolio which includes Fishing Monthly, European Fish Trader and Fish Farming Today. The titles cover commercial fishing, processing and aquaculture.

The division also includes news website www.fishupdate.com which launched last April.
