Entries open for £10k Paul Foot awards

By Press Gazette

Private Eye and the Guardian are again offering a £5,000 prize in memory of the campaigning journalist Paul Foot, who died in 2004.

They have invited submissions of investigative and campaigning journalism published on a newspaper, magazine or website between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006.

Entry forms can be downloaded from www.private-eye.co.uk.
In addition to the first prize, five runners up will each receive £1,000 at a ceremony in London on 17 October.

Last year’s winner was BBC reporter John Sweeney who conducted a four-year investigation into shaken-baby syndrome which helped free three women from prison and contributed to expert witness Sir Roy Meadow being struck off as a medical doctor.

Foot worked most notably for the Daily Mirror and Private Eye and was particularly renowned for his investigations into miscarriages of justice.
