Independent News & Media editor-in-chief and former Belfast Telegraph editor Ed Curran has received his OBE at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Curran first joined the Telegraph in 1966 as a trainee journalist and was made deputy editor in 1974.
In 1988, he became launch editor of the Telegraph's sister title, the Sunday Life, and was later seconded to Cardiff as editor of Wales on Sunday, where he was named editor of the year at the Regional Press Awards.
Curran took on the editorship at the Telegraph in 1993, during some of the most challenging times in the region, and was appointed editor-in-chief of Independent News & Media in 2005.
From 2000 to 2001, Curran was president of the Society of Editors, and from 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the Press Complaints Commission.
