Chris Cramer has become managing director of a newly expanded CNN International after the company’s international newsgathering was merged with CNNI.
Cramer, who was formerly president of CNN International Networks, will continue to oversee the editorial and programming side of CNNI, while taking on responsibility for the worldwide newsgathering operation of 28 bureaux outside the US.
The new CNNI directorate now includes the five flagship CNNI services in English, CNN en Espanol, CNNJ (Japan) and joint ventures such as n-tv, CNN+ and CNN Turk, in addition to the international newsgathering operation.
“When I joined CNN nearly eight years ago, I did so because it was, and remains, the leading international news and information service in the world. I am proud to be taking on this expanded role leading CNN’s team of highly experienced, dedicated and motivated international journalists,” said Cramer.
Before joining CNN in April 1996, Cramer was the head of newsgathering for the BBC.
He is the honourary president of the International News Safety Institute, a fellow of the Royal Television Society and a member of the British Association of Film and Television Arts.
