Carlton to lose six

By Press Gazette

Carlton Television is proposing voluntary redundancies in Nottingham and Birmingham as it pushes through multiskilling plans and increases independent commissions.

It plans to lose six senior production jobs, including regional current affairs producer posts.

Carlton said it was reducing staff in line with the reduction in programming hours and its commitment to farm out up to 25 per cent of production to independent companies.

“We have also introduced self shooting and editing of programmes, which we plan to do more of,” said a Carlton spokesman.

The deadline for the voluntary redundancy applications is 3 January.

Regional NUJ officials say the news means members will be worried about their jobs over Christmas. “Carlton is not likely to go to the negotiation table with this – they’ve already made up their mind that six people are going to go,” said a regional NUJ spokesman.
