The post-Hutton career of Alastair Campbell, the Prime Minister’s former director of communications, was given a boost this week after he was signed by Five to make a number of television programmes.
Campbell, a former political editor for the Daily Mirror, will present a series of interviews with “major figures from the worlds of politics, business and sport” later on in the year.
Filming for a documentary about Campbell has also commenced, according to Five. The 60-minute programme will focus on life after nine years of working for Tony Blair, and on preparation for the forthcoming London Triathlon on 1 August.
He is competing to raise funds for Leukaemia Research and Five will also donate to the charity.
The programmes are being made by Liberty Bell Productions, owned by former ITV executive Stuart Prebble and Andrea Wonfor, a former joint managing director of Granada TV.
The company made last year’s ITV documentary For The Benefit Of Mr Parris, which filmed journalist and former MP Matthew Parris’s attempt to survive on supplementary benefit for a week in Newcastle, having failed 20 years previously.
