Burns to initiate Charter Review

By Press Gazette

Media Secretary Tessa Jowell has appointed Lord Burns, Abbey National’s chairman and a former permanent secretary to the Treasury, as an independent adviser on the BBC Charter Review.

Lord Burns’ first task – by the end of the year – will be to initiate the review by drafting questions about the BBC and its future.

Jowell announced the appointment at the Royal Television Society’s biennial convention in Cambridge last week. She said public involvement was essential both in the Charter Review and switchover from analogue to digital signals, earmarked for 2010.
