Daily Telegraph political correspondent Ben Brogan has been earmarked by Associated Newspapers to succeed Daily Mail political editor David Hughes.
Brogan is to take over as Whitehall editor of the tabloid at the end of the summer and is expected to replace Hughes in a year’s time. Hughes is expected to be moved to a more senior writing role.
Brogan started his career on the Glasgow Herald as a reporter and was covering the Westminster beat when he was poached by the Daily Mail. He went back to the Herald as political editor before moving to the Telegraph where he has been for four years.
He said: “I’m sorry to be leaving the Telegraph but this is fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to start.”
