Two weeks ahead of the opening game, The Guardian and The Sunday Telegraph have unveiled their guides to the Rugby World Cup, writes Dominic Ponsford.
The Guardian is publishing a 76-page full-colour supplement on Monday, 6 October, sponsored by Guinness. It includes contributions from players Lewis Moody (England) and Thomas Castaignede (France) and former winning captains Francois Pienaar (South Africa) and John Eales (Australia).
The Sunday Telegraph’s 36-page guide will be included with the paper on 5 October. Sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, it includes a preview of the tournament by former England rugby player Paul Ackford, as well as his assessment of the 20 competing sides.
There will also be articles from England hooker Steve Thompson, who will be writing for the paper throughout the tournament, and two-time World Cup winner with Australia, Tim Horan.
Both supplements are being publicised with TV advertising campaigns.
