Broadsheet makes switch to tabloid after 131 years

By Maria Buckley

Johnston Press weekly the Isle of Man Examiner has switched to a tabloid format after 131 years as a broadsheet.

The decision came after a reader survey found that 84 per cent of readers would prefer a compact version of the paper – with only 11 per cent urging it to stay broadsheet.

Editor Richard Butt said: ‘We’re delighted the response from our readers has been so positive.

‘The Examiner is moving with the times. Our news and sports coverage has always been popular with our readers.

‘Now it’s easier to read I hope that will make it even more popular.

‘The team here at Publishing House has worked hard for many months to make the changes. I’m thrilled that their hard work has paid off.”

The most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations show the Examiner sold an average of 11,160 copies each week in the second half of last year.
