Africa will be the focus of broadcasters’
coverage in the run-up to next week’s G8 summit with programmes being broadcast live from the continent.
Channel
4 News’ Jon Snow will be presenting from Uganda. Snow told Press
Gazette: “This is a voyage not just to hear voices that cry in anguish
from the pit of Aids despair and the beaten trench of warfare; this is
a voyage to listen to African voices of how they see the world and
their place in it. What on earth do these suits in Edinburgh look like
to them? This is a voyage to gain an African perspective on our
Africa-free existence in the West.”
Sky News’ Africa correspondent, David Chater, will report from locations across Zambia from 4 July.
ITV
News is doing a three-part series from Lesotho in the lead-up to G8. It
is also producing a daily series, How to make a difference, looking at
how viewers can help Africa’s cause.
The BBC will have extensive coverage of G8 on all BBC One bulletins, Newsnight and on News 24.
CNN’s
Christiane Amanpour will be reporting from Ethiopia. The channel also
has interviews with Tony Blair and South African president Thabo Mbeki.
