Whymant Lloyd-Jones
At least two British journalists are among the dead and missing.
Broadsheet Asia specialist reporter Robert Whymant, 60, was swimming with his wife Minako off the coast of Galle in Sri Lanka when the wave struck. She survived, but Whymant’s body was recovered from the Indian Ocean five days later.
Between 1972 and 2002 Whymant was Tokyo correspondent for The Guardian , Sunday Times , Daily Telegraph and The Times .
Barry Lloyd-Jones, 68, a former deputy editor of the Birmingham Evening Mail was on holiday in the Thai resort of Khao Lak when the wave struck. He was last seen by his wife Kath as they ran from the wave before he was swept away.
As well as working for the Evening Mail, Lloyd-Jones was assistant editor of the Birmingham Post. He left the company in the Eighties and has more recently worked in media training.
