Bristol deputy is ordered out

By Press Gazette

By Jon Slattery

Northcliffe Newspapers has axed Stan Szecowka, deputy editor of the
Bristol Evening Post, just weeks after the paper’s editor Mike Lowe was
suddenly replaced.

Szecowka was given 10 minutes to clear his desk by new Evening Post editor-in-chief Mike Norton on Monday.

He left the newsroom to a spontaneous round of applause from his journalist colleagues.

Szecowka
had spent nearly five years at the paper as deputy to Lowe, who was
replaced by Norton last month after nine years as editor.

Szecowka
had also worked for four other Northcliffe titles: the Lincolnshire
Echo, the Derby Evening Telegraph, the Hull Daily Mail and The Citizen,
Gloucester.

He began his career with the Oxford Journal Group and
also worked for the Milton Keynes Mirror and the Northamptonshire
Evening Telegraph.
