Scary Spice sues Sun for £300,000
Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown is suing for libel damages of more
than £300,000 over a story in The Sun. She claims a story headed “Loo-d
Behaviour” on 21 May was defamatory.
Woman & Home sponsored walk
Woman & Home magazine is hoping to raise more than £500,000 for
Breast Cancer Care following three years of fundraising topped off by a
sponsored walk through the Cotswolds. Staff, including editorial
director Sue James, joined 2,000 readers on the walk last Saturday.
UBM titles are put up for sale
UBM has announced it is selling Exchange & Mart and Auto Exchange following a review of its stable of titles.
The publisher said it had already been approached by interested
parties for the magazines, which last year generated £35.8m in revenue.
Recruitment mag wins trade award
Recruitment Matters, the monthly magazine aimed at the £24.5bn
recruitment industry, has won the Magazine of the Year Award at the
Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards. The title, published by
Associa for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), reaches
14,000 REC members and 6,000 human resources professionals.
Spanish title is given a relaunch
Merricks Media has relaunched Spanish magazine with a new look, new
features and the introduction of a “make the move” section. The
magazine aims to give readers thinking of buying in Spain an in-depth
look at Spanish life.
RTE Authority’s new chairman
A former newsroom journalist, Fintan Drury, has been appointed
chairman of the RTE Authority in Ireland. The authority is in effect
the board of the station and makes major strategic and planning
decisions. Day-to-day management decisions are the responsibility of an
executive board headed by the station’s director-general, currently
Cathal Goan.
Newsletter for investors praised
Trust, the customer magazine of Edinburgh investment house Baillie
Gifford, has won the Association of Investment Trust Companies award
for best newsletter. The twice-yearly magazine, published by Mediamark,
is edited by former Financial Times journalist Heather Farmbrough.
