Teesdale Mercury editor Matthew Mills has left the paper after just six months in the role. He will return to his previous position in a senior subediting role on the Bristol Evening Post for family reasons.
“I am deeply saddened to leave Teesdale, however my family has to come first,” said Mills. “I have enjoyed immensely editing the Teesdale Mercury and am proud of our achievements so far.”
Former deputy editor Adrian Braddy has replaced Mills. Braddy said: “Although it is a blow that Matthew had to leave, I relish the opportunity to continue the work that we have been doing here to give Teesdale the newspaper it deserves.”
Braddy has worked previously for the Hartlepool Mail and had two separate stints working at the Galloway Gazette in Scotland.
Since taking up his post, Braddy has slightly tweaked the design of the paper and introduced a farm and country section. In addition he has reinstated a weekly leader column, and added an editorial direction to the paper’s new supplement Dale Life.
