Distinguished former BBC journalist Bob Simpson died suddenly last week at the age of 61.
During his career at the BBC, which spanned almost four decades, Simpson covered the first Gulf War and reported live from Baghdad as it was bombed.
He began journalism in Walthamstow, London, and joined BBC Radio Brighton in the 1960s before moving to Radio Sheffield where he made a name for himself covering the miners' strikes.
He returned to London as a sub-editor at Broadcasting House, but was soon moved to Northern Ireland where he covered the Troubles in the 1970s.
He went on to broadcast from Uruguay during the Falklands War, Lebanon, and Romania during President Ceausescu's fall. He retired in 1998.
