Telegraph Group owner Lord Black has hit back at his critics and branded dissident investors “corporate governance terrorists”.
His comments appear in an interview in Fortune magazine, out next week. The article also quotes an analyst suggesting Black “will be out” of Hollinger – parent company of Telegraph Group – within a year.
Fortune asks Black whether he is really thinking about abandoning newspapers and recalls a complaint he made before a Canadian senate committee that many journalists were “ignorant, lazy, opinionated, intellectually dishonest and inadequately supervised”.
The article suggests Black’s departure could be prompted by publication of his book on Franklin Roosevelt.
Jan Loeb, an analyst at Jefferies & Co, predicts he will be “out by the end of the year” and the article suggests the book might provide Black with “a graceful exit strategy” from Hollinger.
