The BBC has said it will continue to back investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre and will broadcast a further series of MacIntyre Undercover, after reaching a settlement over a libel action by top model agency Elite.
MacIntyre is currently working on a science programme investigating extreme weather and a second series of MacIntyre Undercover, which will be broadcast next year. A further series, MacIntyre Investigates, which will include in-depth investigations, without the use of hidden cameras, is also planned.
"I think that is an indication of the level of support that Donal has at the BBC," a spokesman said.
MacIntyre was out of the country this week following the announcement by the BBC and the model agency on Monday that they had reached an 11th-hour settlement.
In a joint statement with Elite, the BBC admitted the programme unfairly portrayed the modelling agency by failing to reflect that it "warns and seeks to protect its young teenage models, whether from sexual exploitation or other potential dangers".
In turn, Elite, which saw a number of senior executives resign following the November 1999 programme, accepted that sexual remarks made by some executives were "inappropriate".
The BBC said that it had not made any financial settlement with Elite, and denied allegations that one of its journalists, Feisal Ali, had attempted to blackmail a key witness in the trial.
