A bursary to help a student embarking on a career in journalism has been awarded for the fifth time by Archant Anglia.
The £500 grant in memory of Royston Crow editor Fred Sillence, who died in August 1999, has gone to Joanne Jarvis from Royston, Hertfordshire.
Jarvis, 21, spent ten weeks helping at Camp America after gaining a BA (Hons) in communication studies from Anglia Polytechnic University.
Mike Almond, managing editor of Archant Anglia, said: “Fred cared passionately about journalism.
This bursary has been our way of saying thank you for being an inspiration and for helping so many young people.”
Sillence was editor of the Crow from 1965 to 1981.
Jarvis started the 20-week NCTJ course at Harlow College on 6 September. She will join one of seven Archant Anglia newspapers when it finishes in February 2005.
