All Out Cricket makes its news-stand debut next month, complete with a relaunch and increased focus on the cricketers themselves, writes Ruth Addicott.
The title – the official magazine of the Professional Cricketers’ Association and previously called cricnet – has until now only been available to subscribers four times a year. It hopes to become the most widely distributed cricket title in the UK by increasing its frequency to 10 times a year.
Editor Andy Afford said he also hoped to broaden the editorial by giving it more of a lifestyle edge.
“We are going to try to get more humour and celebrities into it because there are more people who are interested in cricket than you think,” he told Press Gazette. The first issue will contain between 90 and 100 pages, have a print run of 40,000 and cover price of £3.50. Afford hopes to achieve a sale of at least 10,000 copies by the end of the summer.
Afford believes there is room in the market for All Out Cricket as well as the established Wisden Cricketer. “Cricket is getting increasingly marginalised and there is an audience to support two magazines.
Whereas Wisden is about cricket, we will be as much about the cricketers as about cricket.”
All Out Cricket was founded in 2002 and is co-owned by the PCA Costcutter Supermarkets Group and TriNorth.
